PROJECT OVERVIEW

 

On Friday 30th October, the Australian Geographic Society hosted its annual awards ceremony at the Grand Ballroom, Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney. The prestigious event acknowledged this year’s most remarkable Australians in the fields of adventure and conservation.

The Australian Geographic Society Awards are Australia’s longest running awards for adventure and conservation and its winners are exceptional people who serve as inspirational role models to all Australians. The Lifetime Achievement Awards for adventure and conservation are the Society's highest honours, recognising those Australians who not only have a lifelong commitment to their chosen field but who have given back to the nation and inspired countless other Australians.

OBJECTIVES

  • Source media outreach for the annual Australian Geographic Society Awards

  • Recognise the work of notable individuals who have contributed in the fields of adventure and conservation

  • Leverage the visit of international explorer Victor Vescovo to raise awareness and increase the profile of the Australian Geographic Society

OUTCOMES

Media coverage was broad-reaching and diverse with stories secured regionally and nationally. 20+ pieces of coverage were published between October - 13 November 2019 (excluding syndications and international coverage), with highlights including ABC TV Weekend Breakfast, The Daily Edition (Channel 7), The Daily Telegraph, 2GB, The Australian, and Sydney Morning Herald / The Age. In addition, Sydney Morning Herald and ABC Radio attended the prestigious event.
