CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES
4th National Hoarding and Squalor Conference
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Momentum² organised the media outreach for the 4th National Hoarding and Squalor Conference 2016 which was held at Rydges, World Square, Sydney from 29 June – 30 June 2016. Our brief was to generate media coverage both in the lead up to and during the conference. In the first instance, this was to drive registrations to the event website. In the second instance, this was to promote awareness of the issues associated with hoarding disorder and squalor and promote the valuable work of Catholic Community Services (CCS).
We organised over 50 interviews for the various conference presenters, CCS staff members and people with lived experience (in consultation with CCS) across a wide range of media. The strategy involved pitching to major media publications, local media (specifically the CCS office locations and the areas of residence of people with lived experience) and specialist publications including health, psychology, psychiatry, animal welfare, religious, seniors, social welfare, philanthropy and local government publications.
CLIENT OBJECTIVES
-
To raise the profile of Catholic Community Services’ Hoarding and Squalor Resource Unit
-
To increase understanding about hoarding disorder and domestic squalor and dispel myths about these two disorders
-
To raise public awareness about the impacts of hoarding and squalor for individuals, community organisations, local, State and Federal governments and the broader community
-
To provide a forum to discuss pathways to professional development and supervision for care workers
-
To develop integrated and collaborative solutions across agencies and services to both resolve the problems and stop the problems escalating
-
To find ways to increase government support
OUTCOMES
Our media outreach generated exceptional coverage for the conference and CCS, translating to over $1.1million in advertising value. This included stories in the Daily Telegraph, News.com.au, three stories in the Sydney Morning Herald, ABC Radio National Life Matters, ABC Big Ideas, ABC Radio National Afternoons, 2UE, The Age, the Newcastle Herald, the Border Mail, ABC Radio Adelaide, Hobart, Perth and Melbourne.
