AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

2017 Australian Geographic Society Awards

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Australian Geographic Society (AGS) hosted its annual awards ceremony on Wednesday 1st November, 2017 at The Sofitel Wentworth Grand Ballroom, Sydney.

The prestigious event acknowledged this year’s most remarkable Australians in the fields of adventure and conservation. Hosted by esteemed journalist and 60 Minutes presenter Liz Hayes, the event featured acclaimed Australian explorer Tim Jarvis AM, as special guest speaker.

Highlights from the night included attendance of over 450 guests, including the founder of the AUSTRALIAN GEOGRAPHIC journal and patron of the Australian Geographic Society, Dick Smith.

Momentum² organised the media outreach for the 2017 Australian Geographic Society Awards.  As the Society’s major event, the Awards provide an excellent vehicle for building the Society’s profile.

We were responsible for organising over 40 media interviews for the various winners across the categories of adventure and conservation.

Momentum² would like to congratulate each of the winners for the 2017 AGS Awards:

  • Lifetime of Adventure: Jon Muir OAM

CLIENT OBJECTIVES

  • To raise the profile of the Australian Geographic Society and the Awards as the only awards in Australia that acknowledge excellence in the fields of adventure and conservation

  • To create awareness and understanding among the public about the importance of adventure and conservation

  • To acknowledge the achievements of remarkable Australians in the fields of adventure and conservation

  • To provide an opportunity to generate media interest and publicity for the Society and the Awards

OUTCOMES

This was another outstanding year for the Awards in terms of media coverage, with almost 10 million impressions across all media outlets, translating to over $2 million worth of coverage. The television coverage was particularly exceptional this year, with Momentum² organising interviews across most major TV channels including WIN Illawarra, WIN Canberra, Channel 9 Today Show, ABC TV Breakfast and three interviews on Channel 7 The Daily Edition.

The radio coverage generated reached an audience of more than triple last year’s awards, which is also an exciting achievement.

Other highlights included print articles which appeared in the Sun Herald, The Age, The Canberra Times and The West Australian.
